Sicko

Yep. Sick again. I know I haven’t blogged in ages, but i promise to make more of an effort (new laptop woo!). Anyways, just came crawling back to whinge about being sick and share a photo of my convalescence so I don’t feel as lonely. The beauty of the iPhone hey? Photoblogging from the comfort of my own nest. Back soon, I swear!

What Better Motivation Than Spandex?

First netball game of the season is this Saturday. Yep, THIS Saturday. Oh it shocked me too. It starts a bit earlier this year, and that combined with the fact that three training sessions have been rained out means that I have trained ONCE (as in one time) before our first game. This troubles me.

Holiday kilos WILL NOT budge and I’m 3kgs heavier than usual. Green spandex in 2 days. Again, troubled. I’ve been eating healthily the past few weeks, but it didn’t seem to be enough. Last week I hit the gym once, had training Monday night, and have been to the gym twice this week so far. I’m currently what the medicos call RETARDIOVASCULAR. Dear god, why, why spandex? I miss the days of junior netty, cotton, so much sweet, sweet cotton. Loose cotton, breathing cotton. Quite apart from my appearance, I’m concerned about my stamina. I’ll report back on how game 1 goes :/

Anyways, unfit + 3 extra kgs + spandex = troubled Suz, Suz taking a moment etc.

(I’ve been watching a lot of Ally McBeal, please forgive any random references)

What else?

French film festival is going really well. Have loved 2 outta 3 so far, 3 more to go.

My dear Lucy has returned to our shores in all her glory and we have resumed our regime of pointless phone calls, pizza, and hypothetical trips to the gym x x x

I have a new video camera which I luuuurve and will post a video or two as soon as I record something worthwhile (don’t hold your breath).

Oh, and my theme song (for all you non-McBeal fans, it’s what you play in your head to make you feel better or more confident in times of stress) is ‘Can’t Get Enough of You Baby’ by Smashmouth. What’s yours?

O+

I’ve been giving blood since I was 16 or 17, but this year I joined the frequent donors club where you try to donate 3 times a year or more. My first donation of the year was on Friday:

Saturday Lunch at Home: Fruit Salad

Hungry, but too enthralled by my book to go out, I decided to have a fruit salad for lunch. I often make fruit salad at home- I just look in the fruit compartment and see what looks good. I decided to post today’s one in particular though, because not only was it delicious, but it looked soooo pretty.

It contained one royal gala apple, two plums, one white-fleshed peach and some green grapes.

Be Afraid!

GoMA’s current film festival thingy (they have one every month, I think) is called ‘Be Afraid’ and consists of horror movies. Well, how convenient! I LOVE horror movies. So last week, Helsk and I scuttled off to GoMA to buy tickets. We chose four movies: A Nightmare on Elm Street (which I love and own on DVD), The Fly, The Shining, and Blue Velvet (David Lynch!!!). We also wanted to see Rosemary’s Baby but we couldn’t go at the time it’s scheduled for. So tonight we hit GoMA for A Nightmare on Elm Street. I’m so excited to see it on the big screen. Oh, Freddy! You’re so nuts.

We have also bought tickets to six movies at the French Film Festival (which I go to every year). So, in the next two or three weeks we have ten movies lined up. Although we usually see two movies a week anyhow, it’s pretty exciting to be all booked in for ten movies!

After GoMA tonight, we’re hitting the gin in the form of Brambles (and possibly a Martini or two) at one of our fave cocktail bars. Dinner will probs happen too.

Last night I went out for dinner and drinks with Lilly, Simon, and Maryam. Lots of wine, lots of pizza, lots of funsies. Lilly and I are gonna be thesis buddies this year because we both have Kim (of Kim Wilkins fame) as our supervisor and are looking at similar topics.

In other news, I paid my UQ library fines so that I could be unblocked from their system and actually enrol in uni! Wow! So yep, my academic year is officially beginning (yes, a couple of weeks behind you organised peeps).

Reading wise I’m going through a Bill Bryson phase. That usually happens every two years or so, and I re-read all my faves of his books.

Movie wise: MILK IS AMAZING (and I saw it before Sean Penn won the Oscar so i’m not influenced by that). Helen and I cried like the little bitches we are. Actually, this past month has been awesome for movies. I saw for in a row that I loved, that never happens! Milk, Changeling, The Reader, and Revolutionary Road- all really great.

Family wise: they’re all nuts. And that’s all I’m going to say!

I’ve just gotten over my first cold/flu thing of the year, so here begins the official count. I don’t think I’ll ever top 2007 during which I was sick approx. every three weeks. That was my first year of nannying and the kid germs were like Kryptonite to me.

Last weekend, during my illness, I had five birthday parties to go to. It was a challenge but I went and enjoyed myself at all of them. Alya’s 21st on Friday night, Lennon’s 1st on Saturday morning, Ruby’s parents’ joint 40th/50th on Saturday night, followed by Zoe’s 21st, and then Chad’s 25th on Sunday arvo. phew.

Netty began on Monday as well. I think I’ll have the same team and coach which I’m happy about :) It will be so good to get fit again. I’m still like 3kgs above my normal weight from xmas, holidays, parties etc.

Time for some prettiness:

Adios, Kansas

So I got back from my holiday this afternoon. It was lovely, relaxing etc.

This is just a perfunctory post to say that I’m back. I’m going out tonight with the girls to one of their work friends’ party at a club and then probs on to the valley in general.

This is my last weekend before I get back to work and uni for the year so I’m making the most of it!

I’ll write a better post later.
